The Verdite Trilogy

The Verdite Trilogy consisits of the first three King's Field Games, set in the land of Verdite and the nearby island of Melanat.





King's Field

King's Field was released December 16, 1994 for the PlayStation. You play as Jean Alfred Forrester, who entered the Royal Cemetery of Verdite in search of his father Hauser. The cemetery consists of five floors -- the Soldier's Graveyard, the Knights and Noble's Graveyard, the Graveyard for Aides to the King Before the Last King, and the Last King's Graveyard -- each full of monsters to kill and items to find.

King's Field II

Released only seven months later on July 21st, 1995, again for the PlayStation, King's Field II follows a friend of Jean's -- Prince Aleph of Granitiki. Aleph heads to the island of Melanat in order to reclaim the Moonlight Sword, which has recently been stolen.

King's Field III

King's Field III was released on June 21, 1996, being the final King's Field game for the PlayStation and marking the end of the Verdite Trilogy. Some time after King's Field II, Verdite has been plunged into chaos by now king Jean's descent into madness. Prince Aleph has Sacrificed himself to seal Jean inside the castle, leaving it up to the king's son Lyle to journey through the land of Verdite and defeat his father.

SWORD OF MOONLIGHT KING'S FIELD Making tool

On March 16, 2000, FromSoftware released a piece of software exclusively for Windows known as Sword of Moonlight which allows the user to create their own King's Field style Game.





A New Age

Only one more mainline King's Field game would be released, and with the departure of FromSoftware from this style of game, there is little chance of another being made.





King's Field IV: The Ancient City

Released October 4, 2001, King's Field IV, known abroad as King's Field: The Ancient City, was released for the PlayStation 2 and is the last of the mainline games. It follows the adventure of Prince Devian, who sets out on a quest to return an object called the Idol of Sorrow to the Ancient city, a quest given to him one stormy night by a mysterious stranger.
